Cooperating and assisting sister parties in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa

The Social Democratic community is global in scope. Social democratic parties throughout the world unite around values such as democracy, human rights, a fair distribution of goods and a peaceful coexistence. Therefore, the Social Democrats are part of an international movement and have a long tradition of international exchange of experience through a number of international partnership organisations. For instance the Party of European Socialists (PES), Progressive Alliance (PA), Global Policy Forum, and Arbejderbevægelsens Nordiske Samarbejdskomite (SAMAK).

The Social Democrats are also engaged in capacity building projects in collaboration with the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy (DIPD). We engage in projects with Social Democratic parties in Burkina Faso, Swaziland and regionally in Asia. Read more about our international partnerships.

SAMAK

SAMAK is an important political platform for exchanging political and organisational ideas and initiating common Nordic ideas, when it is found meaningful.

SAMAK strengthens networks, educates, ensures an exchange of information and is a platform for discussing political themes and setting political agendas.

The network consists of parties and labour unions from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, and The Faroe Islands.

Every fourth year the members of SAMAK meet for a congress. The chairman and leadership changes at each congress and rotates between the member states.

PES

The Party of European Socialists (PES) brings together the Socialist, Social Democratic, Labour and Democratic Parties from all over the European Union and Norway.

PES is represented in the European Institutions by its member organisations and leaders. In the European Parliament, the Progressive Alliance of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, also known as the S&D group, represent the PES. It has 154 members and has representatives from all 28 EU member states.

The PES movement has several fundamental values that are democracy, freedom, equality, peace and justice. The values belong together and make out a moral compass to build progressive societies. PES is committed to fighting for social justice, growth and jobs, consumer rights, clear rules for the financial sector, human rights, and sustainable development around the world.

Progressive Alliance

The Progressive Alliance (PA) is an international network of social-democratic and progressive political parties and organisations. The network encompasses more than 130 parties and organisations around the world.

The Progressive Alliance (PA) wants to strengthen regional exchange and setting up regional organisations. They want to address issues of progressive politics between borders and setting up a comprehensive exchange of ideas on campaign management and modern party organization between social democratic parties and organisations.

The global network of PA is based on the commitment of individual parties who propose initiatives and projects and implement these together with the Progressive Alliance.

Global Policy Forum

Global Policy Forum (GPF) is an independent policy watchdog that monitors the work of the United Nations and scrutinises global policymaking. They promote accountability and citizen participation in decisions on peace and security, social justice and international law.

Global Policy Forum gathers information and circulates it through a comprehensive website, as well as through reports, newsletters, NGO's and conferences.

GPF analyses deep and persistent structures of power and dissects rapidly emerging issues and crises. They seek egalitarian, cooperative, peaceful and sustainable solutions to the world's problems.
